One in a series of ten large-scale drawings taken from stills from the film The Night of the Hunter. The title of my project It’s A Hard World For Little Things is taken directly from a quote in this scene, that features an owl stalking a young rabbit, we see it swoop down and then hear the screech as the rabbit is caught, although we never see the kill itself. It is used as a metaphor for the plight of the films two young heroes John and Pearl who wander the land in search of food and shelter. This gothic film is black & white and expressionist in style, which is reflected in the treatment of the subsequent drawings. These drawings work individually or as a series that gives a sense of animation when shown together as a group.
