Philippine Pieta Graphite on Paper 2015

V&A Museum of Childhood, It’s A Hard World For Little Things, exhibition runs until 17th July 2016.

This image show a boy carrying a distressed toddler caught in the aftermath of the terrible monsoon that struck the Philippines in 2012. The storm led to the destruction of thousands of homes and the displacement of the islands people. The boy looks directly at the viewer as he rescues the child, maybe his brother, we don’t know. Yet the older boy challenges and holds our gaze, exuding an ancient knowledge and incredible maturity in a time of crisis.
